I should have bought this years ago!!There is no comparing the power/suction of portable canister vaccumes an this central vaccume. Although we have only used it a few times, it is awesome. You can clean the same room as someone is watching TV without disturbing anyone! Electrolux has a nice unit and the install was relatively easy. I am a good DIY so had very few issues as I had pre-marked and pre-cut most of the install in advance as I did renovations in the last six months. The power unit is in a small sounded insulated cupboard in the basement, and is hardly noticeable when on. I would have liked to vent this directly outdoors, but I have ant issues and have not yet fount an exterior vent that would keep the little guys out (if you know of such vents, kw_montreal is my mail at Hotmail). The included muffler is a very simple design, but very effective at keeping sound decibels down. The Electrolux CS3000 hose kit is quality and well with the extra few dollars over the cheaper generic brands. Time will be the test, but on first impressions I am glad I researched this and paid a little more than some of the other units I looked at.
